Dalston

- Rose Castle (circular walk) A picturesque walk of approximately 1 hour directly from the PODS via the river Caldew and Rose Castle (the historic residence of the Bishop of Carlisle)
- Off road walking/cycle route into the village; one mile to Bridge End Inn Pub and the bus stop
- Public footpath/cycleway from Dalston to Carlisle (Accessed at St. Michael's Primary School) in the centre of the village

Caldbeck - The Gateway to the Lake District
A beautiful picturesque route into the Lakes via the popular village of Caldbeck. Well worth a stop for either a short walk at the Howk or in the village then refreshments at the Oddfellows Arms Pub or the Watermill Cafe. Continue your journey over the fell tops (remember to look out for the wayward sheep, or possibly a fell pony or two) onto Uldale common. You may like to consider a stop at Mae's Tea room, The Old School, Uldale; then head to the Castle Inn Hotel crossroads where you can either turn left and head towards Bassenthwaite and onto Keswick or go straight ahead which will take you to the opposite side of Bassenthwaite Lake onto the A66; which will take you to Braithwaite, Whinlatter and then of course Keswick.

Should you wish to visit the Ullswater area the best route is via Junction 42 of the M6; head down to Penrith Junction 40 then head for the A66 to Keswick.
